A majority of Randwick City councillors have voted against a plan to introduce pay parking for visitors at beachside areas.
The Council has declared the 30 June vote represents the conclusion of the long-running matter, with no further action to be taken towards introducing beachside parking meters.
The decision followed a unanimous vote of councillors in February, agreeing to place the proposal on public exhibition after several years of community requests to address parking pressures.
The proposal had sought to make it easier for locals to find a park and for visitors to contribute towards lifeguards, surf club upgrades, coastal cleaning, upgrades to the coastal walkway and active transport infrastructure.
Councillors instead resolved to consider other revenue sources and to investigate alternative parking management tools.
More than 12,000 people gave Council feedback across March and April in its biggest consultation in history, with 55% supporting the plan via a survey and 64% supporting it through a representative telephone survey.
Councillors voting against the proposal cited a desire to not charge visitors from outside the local government area for parking.
