State of Origin rivalry is rolling out on Brisbane’s streets with Blue and Maroon CityGliders battling it out in the ultimate pre-match showdown.
Depot crews from Carina and Eagle Farm have transformed their CityGliders into Maroon and Blue masterpieces ahead of next Wednesday night’s series decider.
The winning bus was crowned at the Caxton Street forecourt earlier today after judges weighed up which depot delivered the strongest State of Origin spirit.
Eagle Farm Depot’s Blue bus claimed victory, but Queenslanders will be hoping the Maroons produce a very different result when the teams meet at Suncorp Stadium next week.
The annual competition is now in its 19th year and continues to showcase our depot crews’ creativity while bringing the Origin atmosphere to the streets before the first whistle blows.
“There is so much passion and fierce rivalry when it comes to State of Origin, so it’s only fitting that the fun and games spill beyond Suncorp Stadium and onto our streets,” said Civic Cabinet Chair for Infrastructure, Councillor Andrew Wines.
“Our Carina and Eagle Farm depot crews have once again gone above and beyond, turning two CityGliders into rolling displays of State of Origin pride we know passengers love.
“It was a cracking contest and despite my Maroons allegiance, Eagle Farm Depot earned their win.
“If you’re heading to the game, leave the car at home and take advantage of our free bus travel offerings so you can focus on cheering the Maroons home.”
The State of Origin-decorated buses will deliver passenger services until the day after the game, giving residents the chance to pick a side and judge the interstate rivalry for themselves.
Thousands of fans are expected to catch a bus to Wednesday night’s State of Origin decider, with ticket holders able to travel free on all regular bus services before and after the game from four hours before kick-off until four hours after full-time.

Additional free shuttle buses will also operate at regular intervals between 6.05pm and 7.35pm from:
- The CBD
- Carindale
- Chermside
- Eight Mile Plains
- Garden City
- The Gap
Return shuttle services will operate for one hour after the match.
