Central Coast Council has secured $1.6 million from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program to deliver targeted safety improvements on Woy Woy Road at Kariong.
The Council says the funding will support upgrades designed to reduce the risk of serious crashes and improve safety for all road users.
Woy Woy Road is one of the Central Coast’s busiest routes, with around 20,000 vehicles using the road each day. This section of the road has experienced a number of serious incidents over time, and these works aim to improve safety and reduce the likelihood and severity of future crashes.
The proposed works include:
- Installation of a centre median safety barrier;
- High-friction pavement between over an approximately 1km length of the road just south of Staples Lookout.
Design and community consultation is planned for 2026–27, with construction expected to begin in 2027–28.
This project is funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which targets locations with a history of serious injury crashes or high-crash risk.
