The seawall at the end of Pier Road in Grantville is being renewed as part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Capital Works Program.
Construction works have begun, with the project expected to take around seven weeks to complete, subject to weather, tides and contractor availability.
The $120,000 project is fully funded by Council.
“These works are being carried out as the existing concrete seawall is ageing and over time, has suffered damage from wave action,” Council said in a statement.
“The seawall offers protection from wave erosion to important public assets, including the nearby foreshore picnic and barbecue area, grassed open space and public car parking.”
Works to repair the seawall will also include improved beach access steps, a new beach shower and some landscaping with native plants.
“For safety reasons, the project area will become a construction zone for the duration of the works and appropriate traffic and pedestrian measures will be in place.”
