Construction is rolling out on the first of 11 road safety projects being delivered across Manningham through the Victorian Government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
The projects are part of a $2 million investment in local road safety improvements. The first project, at the intersection of Beauty Gully Road and Harris Gully Road in Warrandyte, will encourage lower vehicle speeds, improve visibility for drivers and make it easier to navigate the intersection safely, helping to reduce the risk of crashes.
Manningham Mayor, Jim Grivas said many parts of Manningham’s road network, particularly in Warrandyte, were developed long before modern road design standards and current traffic volumes.
“Many of Manningham’s roads were established decades ago, when there were fewer residents, fewer vehicles and far less school-related traffic.
“These historic roads are carrying significantly more traffic than they were originally designed for, creating ongoing safety challenges. These upgrades will help address long-standing safety issues and ensure the road network better meets the needs of our community today.”
Additional safety improvements on school travel routes have been scheduled during the September-October school holidays to help minimise disruption for school communities.
“Recognising that road works can affect access and daily activities, we are scheduling works outside business hours or during school holidays where feasible. Council officers are working closely with local businesses, schools and other stakeholders to minimise disruption
during works,” said the Mayor.
School holiday works include pedestrian crossing improvements on Egan Drive in Bulleen, Rosella Street in Doncaster East and Serpells Road in Templestowe.
