Barnaby Joyce has won a National Party leadership spill, defeating former leader Michael McCormack.
Mr Joyce will now return to the nation’s second highest office three years after losing the deputy prime ministership.
It’s believed Mr Joyce defeated Mr McCormack in a close contest at this morning’s vote.
Queensland Senator, Matt Canavan moved a spill motion this morning, prompting the leadership vote.
The position of Deputy Leader of the National Party was not contested, meaning Minister David Littleproud will continue in the role.
