Hepburn Shire Council Mayor, Don Henderson, has expressed his heartfelt thanks to local firefighting crews who worked through the night to bring a large bushfire under control in Creswick.
The blaze, which travelled from Melbourne Road in a north-easterly direction towards Sawmill Road in Springmount yesterday afternoon, was finally contained this afternoon.
“Yesterday, our community experienced an intense and challenging fire situation within our Shire, and we are incredibly grateful for the swift and effective response from our local emergency services and staff,” said Mayor Henderson.
“We extend our deepest thanks to the CFA, Forest Fire Management Victoria, and all emergency personnel who worked throughout the day and night to protect lives and property. Their dedication is a true reflection of their commitment to the safety of our community.
“Our thanks also go to the staff from our Council, community volunteers, and all other support services, whose behind-the-scenes efforts were crucial in managing the crisis and ensuring that those affected received assistance as quickly as possible.”
He said yesterday’s blaze served as a stark reminder to every local community member about the importance of being fire ready.
“We encourage everyone to take this time to review their bushfire plans and ensure that they have adequate preparations in place,” said Mayor Henderson.
