Dog owners can have their four-legged mates microchipped free of charge next month, thanks to a Cessnock City Council effort to promote responsible pet ownership across the local government area.
A free drop-in microchipping session will be held at Huntlee District Park, on Triton Boulevard, between 10am and 12.30pm on Wednesday, 11 June.
Mayor, Daniel Watton said microchipping dogs was not only a legal requirement, but ensured lost pets can be returned home as soon as possible.
“For many people, their dog is considered a member of the family, and this Council initiative will help ensure these beloved creatures are safe,” said Mayor Watton.
“I strongly encourage anyone whose dog is not microchipped – or anyone who wants their dog’s microchip scanned to ensure the details it contains are up-to-date – to take advantage of this free offer.”
Microchipping a companion animal typically costs between $60 and $80 in NSW.
