Community invited to comment on draft Katoomba Falls parking plan

Blue Mountains City Council is inviting the community to have their say on a draft Parking Precinct Plan for the Katoomba Falls Scenic World precinct, which is now on public exhibition.

The six-week exhibition, from 16 February to 30 March, gives residents, businesses and visitors the opportunity to review the draft plan and provide feedback before it is finalised.

The Katoomba Falls Scenic World precinct is one of the Blue Mountains’ busiest visitor destinations, with increasing pressure on parking, traffic movement and pedestrian safety.

The draft plan aims to improve pedestrian access and road safety while supporting both local residents and the visitor economy.

Mayor, Mark Greenhill said community input would play an important role in shaping the final plan.

“This precinct is a key gateway for visitors to our city and it’s important we manage parking and access in a way that is safe, fair and sustainable,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“We want to hear from residents, local businesses and visitors about what works well and what could be improved, so we can strike the right balance between supporting our community and managing increasing visitation.”

The draft plan proposes a range of actions, including formalising parking areas, restricting unsafe parking, improving pedestrian connections and investigating future parking capacity. It also considers the introduction of pay parking in selected areas, aligned with Council’s existing Visitor-Pay Parking Scheme.

Mayor Greenhill said free parking would continue to be available for residents, ratepayers and carers through Council’s permit parking system.

“Revenue from visitor parking helps Council invest back into local services, facilities and infrastructure that benefit both residents and visitors,” he said.

The draft plan can be viewed and submissions lodged via Council’s Have Your Say website.
