WA to consider alternate dates for King’s Birthday holiday

Local governments interested in having an alternative date declared for the King’s Birthday public holiday in their district should make a request to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety by 23 December.

The Governor has declared that the Celebration Day for the Anniversary of the Birthday of the Reigning Sovereign (now referred to as the King’s Birthday public holiday) will be observed in 2023 on Monday 25 September.

Local governments may request that the public holiday be celebrated on an alternative day of significance within their districts, instead of the date proclaimed as the public holiday for the rest of the State.

Local governments interested in having an alternative date declared for the King’s Birthday public holiday in 2023 should provide a written request which contains:

  • the boundaries of the area that will be affected by the change (if it is other than the local government’s boundaries);
  • the reason/s for the alternative date;
  • the consultation process undertaken to arrive at the alternative date.

Written requests should be submitted no later than Friday 23 December 2022 to:
