Georges River Council is set to open a pop-up skate park this summer while community consultation on off-road infrastructure for the local government area takes place.
Local bike riders and the wider community are being asked to have their say and complete a survey to help Council consider the infrastructure needs for off-road bike riding in the Georges River region.
Council has also developed an interactive ‘Build My Bike Track’ map for bike riders to pinpoint where they would like to see a bike track or facility.
While the consultation is underway, there will be interim solutions to cater for off-road biking activities, as endorsed by Council in October.
Council will install a pop-up skate park suitable for bike riding, such as BMX, at Olds Park, Penshurst as well as deliver tracks to Lower Gannons Park in Peakhurst.
“Council is committed to delivering a diverse range of high quality, sustainable, inclusive places and spaces for people of all ages and abilities,” General Manager, Gail Connolly said.
“Our Open Space, Recreation and Community Facilities Strategy identifies mountain biking as an emerging sport with rising popularity, so we want to hear from our community how we can support this in Georges River.”
The consultation on BMX and mountain bike riding in Georges River is open now until Friday 21 January 2022.
