Murrumbidgee Council has returned Councillor Ruth McRae OAM as Mayor and Councillor Robert Black as Deputy Mayor, with both elected unopposed at Council’s September meeting.
Mayor McRae said she was honoured to have the confidence and support of her fellow councillors to serve as Mayor for another two years.
“Both Cr Black and I are proud and privileged to continue leading Murrumbidgee Council,” she said.
“We have a strong foundation to build on, with important projects underway and opportunities ahead for our communities.
“We look forward to working alongside councillors, the local community, council staff, regional partners and stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes across the Murrumbidgee area.”
Mayor McRae has served as Mayor of Murrumbidgee Council since its establishment in September 2017. She was first elected to the former Jerilderie Shire Council in 2004, served as Deputy Mayor from 2007 to 2014 and Mayor from 2014 until the merger of councils.
In 2023, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of her service to local government and the community.
Deputy Mayor, Robert Black said he was pleased to continue supporting the Mayor, Councillors and community in his role.
“Cr McRae and I have worked together as Mayor and Deputy Mayor since the establishment of Murrumbidgee Council, and over that time we have developed a strong and effective working relationship,” Cr Black said.
“We have a good team and are committed to working transparently with our fellow Councillors and the community to make informed decisions and deliver positive outcomes for our residents.”
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by councillors for a two-year term. Following their unopposed election, Cr McRae and Cr Black will serve in the roles until September 2028.
