The Queensland Government hosted the North Burnett Regional Forum in Mundubbera yesterday, bringing together residents, primary producers, business operators, community and student leaders to discuss the priorities shaping the North Burnett.
The Forum is the sixth in a statewide series, providing regional Queenslanders with direct access to Cabinet Ministers and senior government representatives.
Minister for Regional and Rural Development, Dale Last said the forum was an opportunity to hear directly from local people who understand the North Burnett and its potential.
“These forums are about getting out into regional Queensland and hearing directly from the people who know their communities best,” Minister Last said.
“The North Burnett region has a proud agricultural heritage, strong local businesses and hardworking communities that make an important contribution to Queensland’s economy.
“We want to build on those strengths by listening to local concerns, understanding the challenges facing regional industries and identifying opportunities for the region to grow.
“That starts with understanding what matters on the ground and working with communities on the opportunities that will make a real difference locally.”
Member for Callide, Bryson Head said the forum was an important opportunity to put local priorities directly in front of government decision makers.
“The North Burnett is home to many hardworking families, from farmers to truckies to other small businesses who make an enormous contribution to our state,” Mr Head said.
“As the local member, I know how important issues like road infrastructure, water security and access to essential services are to the future of our communities.
“Having Ministers and senior government representatives here in Mundubbera gives our residents an opportunity to be part of the decision-making process and help shape practical solutions.”
North Burnett Regional Council Mayor, Les Hotz, welcomed the opportunity to discuss the region’s priorities directly with the Queensland Government.
“People in the North Burnett are passionate about their communities and want to see them continue to grow and prosper,” Mayor Hotz said.
“We know what’s working, we know where the pressure points are, and we have a good understanding of what our communities need for the future.
“Having government representatives here in Mundubbera means we can discuss the North Burnett’s needs face-to-face and look ahead at what we can achieve by working together.”
