New Randwick council SMS service solves confusion of bin night

Randwick City Council has rolled out a new SMS reminder service to take the confusion out of bin night, with residents able to get the ‘right bin’ info sent to their phone.

The weekly, free reminder service sends a text the day before your bin is due for collection, telling you which bin needs to go out. The Council says it’s a simple fix for one of the most common household frustrations.

“Bin night shouldn’t be a guessing game, so we’ve made it simple: sign up once, and you’ll get a reminder every week without having to think about it,” says Mayor, Clare Willington.

“It’s a free service and doesn’t require an app. Registration is through a short online form on Council’s website.”

Signing up takes a couple of minutes. First, residents find their waste zone by entering their address on the interactive map. Then they complete the online sign-up form, entering their mobile number and selecting their zone from the drop-down list.

The new service builds on Council’s existing SMS alerts for scheduled clean-ups of bulky items, which have been running for some time.

“We want to make everyday life in Randwick that little bit easier, and this is a simple way to do it,” says Mayor Willington.

“Sign up today and let bin night become one less thing to worry about.”
