Cumberland City Council has secured $150,000 from the NSW Government’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Legacy Program to deliver a new, state-of-the-art amenities building at Holroyd Sportsground.
The NSW Government funding will be used in combination with Council funding to expand the existing single change facility structure, enabling the development of additional female-friendly and accessible amenities to improve grassroots sporting infrastructure and better meet the needs of growing community sport participation.
The project will see the construction of a modern, female-friendly and universally accessible facility, featuring change rooms, showers, toilets and seating.
Mayor, Ola Hamed said the upgrade will address a critical gap that has been limiting participation in local sport, particularly for women and girls and will unlock new opportunities for growth, inclusion and community connection.
“This investment is about breaking down barriers and making sport more accessible for everyone,” Mayor Hamed said.
“By delivering modern, female-friendly facilities at Holroyd Sportsground, we are creating an environment where women and girls feel supported, safe and encouraged to participate and thrive.
“This grant, combined with Council’s funding commitment to the project, will have a lasting impact, boosting participation, strengthening community connections and ensuring our sporting spaces reflect the needs of our growing and diverse population.”
Construction timelines for the Holroyd Sportsground upgrade will be confirmed by Council following final planning and procurement processes.
