New City of Darwin council sworn in

The 23rd Council of City of Darwin has been officially sworn in at a ceremony in the city’s Civic Centre.
 
The new Council is made up of the Lord Mayor and 12 Aldermen, with six Aldermen re-elected from their previous Council term and six being newly elected.
 
Kon Vatskalis successfully contested his second term as Lord Mayor.
 
“I would like to congratulate the Council Members who have been re-elected, I am looking forward to working with them again, and the new Council Members,” he said.
 
“The new Council is here to represent the interests of all residents and ratepayers across Darwin and I know that we will try to achieve this to the best of our abilities.
 
“I am looking forward to working with my new Council Members as an effective team to achieve great things for our Council and our community over the next four years.”
 
CEO Scott Waters congratulated all of the newly appointed Council members.
 
“I am very excited and am looking forward to working with the new Council over the next four years,” he said.
 
“I am certain that they will find their role rewarding as they embark on delivering projects and services for our community.

“They each have an important role to play in representing the interests of our residents and make decisions, strategies and policies that benefit the whole of Darwin.”
