National roadworthiness survey rolls on

The National Roadworthiness Survey (NRS) is well underway, with National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) Safety and Compliance Officers, alongside police and authorised officers, conducting random visual and mechanical inspections of trucks, buses, and other Special Purpose Vehicles across all states and territories, including WA and the NT.

Through the Survey, the NHVR is collecting data and information to identify existing and emerging risks and trends, with the aim of enhancing road safety across the heavy vehicle industry.

It says the survey results will provide a mechanical health check on the national fleet, allowing the NHVR to determine where both the organisation and industry are making improvements in vehicle safety, and the areas that require more focus.

The NRS will help accelerate harmonisation across state borders, one of the NHVR’s biggest goals post transition of services in Queensland, NHVR said in a statement.

“We are working alongside industry during this time to ensure the survey is effective and runs smoothly.”
