Soccer in the Melbourne suburb of Narre Warren has received a major boost, with the official opening of upgraded facilities at Prospect Hill Reserve.
City of Casey Mayor, Stefan Koomen; Deputy Mayor, Melinda Ambros and Ward Councillor, Dave Perry were joined by Belinda Wilson MP and Casey Panthers Soccer Club President, Matthew Renwick, to officially open the upgraded reserve.
The upgrades will enable greater training and competition capacity, improve safety through enhanced lighting and netting, and provide comfort and accessibility for spectators and families.
“These works are about more than just infrastructure, they are an investment in our community that create a safe and welcoming place for people to come together, whether as players, families or spectators,” said Mayor Koomen.
The Mayor said the upgrades will be welcomed by the Casey Panthers Soccer Club, who will make full use of the improved facilities across their 32 teams and 430 members.
“The Panthers have grown into a thriving club since their establishment in 2004, and these new facilities will support them to continue to grow into the future,” he said.
Upgrades include new LED lighting with smart controls, behind-goal netting, a veranda and canopy, concreting and new spectator seating, as well as portable soccer goals with a dedicated storage enclosure.
Council has also delivered a new drink fountain and boot cleaning station, with further works to provide a shelter and tiered seating for the junior pitch scheduled for completion this financial year.
The project was jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Local Sports Grants program.
