Murrumbidgee Council is set to host an agricultural industry event for female rice growers as part of NSW Women’s Week activities.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said the Council was thrilled to be able to offer the free event as one of just 16 organisations who received funding for NSW Women’s Week.
“I’ll be joining the group and am looking forward to a worthwhile few hours cementing my knowledge about rice production and meeting with other women involved in the industry,” she said.
The event, to be held in conjunction with Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia, is free and is open to women across the Western Riverina.
The day will begin with local rice producer, Maddy Dunbar (pictured), who will give participants a guided tour of her family rice growing property.
Following the tour, the group will head to the Coleambally Community Hall for a networking lunch and panel discussion, which Federal Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, will attend.
Four local industry representatives – Denise Kelly, Melissa De Bortoli, Emma Finemore and Michele Groat – will lead an informative panel session will sit on the panel and share their knowledge and experiences.
The event will run from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday 5 March 2024.
The tour departs from and returns to Coleambally Community Hall, with a free shuttle bus available from Finley, Jerilderie, Leeton, Whitton and Darlington Point.
