Mt Gambier draws art project EOI

City of Mount Gambier Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for the Mount Gambier Beacon Art Project.

The Council says the Beacon Art Project seeks to capture the unique combination of landscape, people and history that forms Mount Gambier’s identity and resonates with the local community and visitors to the city.

Artists are invited to submit a design proposal for an iconic public art work within Mount Gambier’s CBD.

“The project’s vision is to enhance vibrancy, promote cultural identity, provide a unique attraction and iconic work of art,” said Director Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre and Cultural Development, Ashleigh Whatling.

“We encourage submissions that creatively engage the Limestone Coast’s diverse cultural and geographic identity to deliver a significant landmark for the region.”

Materials and mediums are unrestricted for the project and artists are encouraged to consider local industry, history and geography when proposing materials.

“Artists should consider durability and low ongoing maintenance are important considerations, ensuring the longevity of the artwork for up to 30 years,” Ms Whatling said.

Consideration should be given to the potential impact on foot traffic, visibility, and the architectural and geographical context of the proposed location.

The Mount Gambier Beacon Art Project will be delivered as a two stage process. An assessment panel comprising of representatives from Council and community members will review the Expressions of Interest, evaluating submissions based on the selection criteria.

Further information about the Beacon Art Project, including the selection criteria, can be found at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/services/the-riddoch/artist-opportunities

Expressions of interest must be submitted by 5:00 pm on 30 April 2024 and can be sent to city@mountgambier.sa.gov.au or the Civic Centre, 10 Watson Terrace, Mount Gambier, SA 5290.
