Burnie park named in honour of Council staffer

Tasmania’s Burnie City Council has officially opened a new local basketball court in honour of much-loved former staffer, Jeremy White, who passed away in 2007.

The Council says the Jeremy White Court will be an enduring tribute to the sports-loving Jeremy, who would have celebrated his 52nd birthday on 3 May.

Jeremy’s children Lawson and Eliza, along with granddaughters Amarni (6) and Nalah (3), together unveiled the sign for The Jeremy White Court, which is a brand-new, half-size basketball court located at View Road Reserve that was paid for by the Jeremy White Foundation.

A crowd of 50 community members came together for the event where Jeremy – who was a member of the Burnie City Council events team – was remembered fondly for his dedication to the community and his larger-than-life personality as a “Burnie boy to his core”.

The Jeremy White Foundation was created after Jeremy’s passing and has paid out over $100,000 in grants to individuals and students to pursue their sporting passions.
