Monash makes mayoral panel debut

City of Monash Council Mayor, Tina Samardzija, has been appointed to the Victorian Government’s Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel for 2023 – the first time Monash has been represented on the panel.

The Panel is established by Minister for Local Government, Melissa Horne, under the Local Government Act 2020 to provide advice to the Minister on issues that impact the local government sector.

All Victorian Mayors were invited to register their interest, with 13 selected.

Mayor Samardzija said she was looking forward to working alongside Minister Horne and the other Mayors.

“This is an opportunity to represent Monash alongside mayors from across Victoria,” she said.

“Monash prides itself on being a strong advocate for our community, and we have constructive relationships with our local state and federal MPs.

“Participating on this Panel is an important opportunity to elevate the concerns of the Monash community and work directly with the Victorian Government.

“There is much to gain from all three tiers of government working together and I am looking forward to working with Minister Horne and the panel of mayors.

“I’m honoured to be selected,” said Mayor Samardzija.
