Minister joins Mayor for Toowoomba road safety message

Queensland Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Daniel Purdie yesterday joined Toowoomba Region Mayor, Geoff McDonald, to issue a special plea for motorists to take extra care on the roads across the Christmas break.

The high-level road safety message was delivered at the Toowoomba Police Station in the wake of yet another fatal accident that occurred in the Lockyer Valley on Friday afternoon.

“Whilst you enjoy the Christmas break, please remember to be safe on the roads. We’ve seen an increase in road fatalities in our Region over the last several months and it’s devastating,” said Mayor McDonald.

Mayor McDonald said the region had recently experienced some extreme weather and it was important to stress that in the event of wet weather and storms – if it’s flooded, forget it.

The Mayor also took the opportunity to thank local emergency personnel for their service over the festive season.

“Thank you to all our police officers, emergency services and first responders who continue to work across the holidays to respond to incidents.”

“You have sacrificed time with your loved ones, to help save someone else’s loved one and that is invaluable,” he said.
