City of Melton Mayor, Goran Kesic has welcomed the news that a Victorian Coalition government will proceed with the Melton Hospital project if elected.
State Opposition Leader, Matthew Guy made the announcement in Cobblebank today, with a commitment to start works within 12 months of election.
“We are thrilled that the Victorian Opposition has committed to build the Melton Hospital,” Mayor Kesic said.
“This is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia with a critical need for a public hospital.
“To have both major parties commit to this important project is a big win for our whole community.
“With a State election to be held in November this year, it’s great news for our community and we feel confident that a Melton Hospital will be built.
“We’ve been working closely with the current Victorian Government on planning for this hospital and we’re hopeful that the hospital will be operational by 2026.
“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank the Opposition Leader for recognising the importance of committing to build a Melton Hospital to meet the health needs of our community.”
At the announcement, Mayor Kesic also outlined Council’s advocacy priorities.
“We also thank the Opposition Leader for taking the time to hear about our major priorities,” he said.
“Projects such as the Western Intermodal Freight Terminal, the Outer Metropolitan Ring and the Melton Hospital are transformational projects and key to job creation and local investment.
“The need for a major roads package is also a priority to improve capacity and connections for residents and businesses.
“As we approach a state election in November this year, Council will continue to lobby for major projects and services that will create jobs and improve the wellbeing of our community.”
