Griffith Council welcomes $9.5m funding for jobs, housing and infrastructure

Griffith City Council has secured $9.5 million in funding for two major local projects as part of Round 2 of the Federal Government’s Sustainable Communities Program.

Under the funding round, to be delivered by the NSW Government, communities in the southern Murray-Darling Basin will benefit from 14 new major infrastructure, community and economic development projects valued at $69 million.

The Council has secured funding for two major projects:

  • $3.96 million for the Griffith Livestock Marketing Centre (pictured) Renewal – Shade, Sustainability and Regional Strength, featuring a new permanent steel skillion roof over priority sale yard pens, improved amenities, and future solar integration provisions as part of Stage 1 of a broader master plan;
  • $5.56 million for the Boorga Road Widening and Enhancement Project, supporting the Lake Wyangan housing precinct through design and construction of key road infrastructure between Mallinson Road and the village.

Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran said the funding would deliver important local benefits.

“This investment will help deliver critical infrastructure for our growing community while also supporting local jobs and long-term economic resilience. Council is pleased to see these projects progressing with support from both the Australian and NSW Governments,” Mayor Curran said.

Applications for the next $50 million Business and Industry grant round close on 3 August at 12pm. To apply, visit www.nsw.gov.au/scp.
