Green light for $3.75m Albury park upgrades

Albury City Council has resolved to award the contract for major upgrades at Australia Park, delivering improved parking, pedestrian access, flood protection and visitor amenity in one of the city’s most popular riverside destinations.

Following extensive community consultation and design refinements to address concerns about environmental impact and open space, Council will proceed to the construction phase.

The works will be delivered by Excell Gray Bruni Pty Ltd for $3.75 million, with funding provided by Council and the NSW Government under the Regional Growth Environment and Tourism Fund.

Mayor, Kevin Mack said the project reflects both the aspirations of the community and Council’s long-term vision for the riverside area.

“We’ve listened carefully to community feedback and made important changes to the design to ensure environmental impacts are minimised while improving access, amenity and safety,” Mayor Mack said.

“The upgrades at Australia Park are about making this area more accessible for everyone — whether you’re walking, cycling, enjoying a picnic, or visiting the proposed Oddies Creek Splash Park when constructed.”

The Australia Park car park, pedestrian bridge and levee bank upgrade project includes:

  • A new 65-place car park to meet growing demand from increased visitation;
  • A new pedestrian bridge linking Australia Park with Oddies Creek Park;
  • Upgraded levee bank to enhance flood protection;
  • Connecting pathways and upgraded road access;
  • A new picnic shelter, landscaping, tree planting and street lighting.

Mayor Mack said the investment will strengthen Albury’s position as a leading regional destination.

“The Murray River is at the heart of our identity, and this project is part of our broader Murray River Experience Master Plan,” he said.

“It’s about ensuring that as visitation grows, our parks and facilities are ready to welcome everyone, now and into the future.”

Construction is expected to begin in the 2025/26 financial year, with completion scheduled in line with budget and tender provisions.
