Gladstone event shines bright at business awards

One of the Gladstone Region’s biggest and brightest events has claimed a second Gladstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Best in Business Award within the space of two years.

The light festival, ‘Luminous’ – which was held in July – won the Events & Tourism category at the awards night held at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre on Saturday.

The 2023 Best in Business Awards is not the first time Luminous has attracted the eye of judges, with the event winning the Tourism, Attractions & Events category at the 2021 GCCI Best in Business Awards.

The Luminous event has also previously won the 2019 Event of the Year Award at the Parks and Leisure Australia – Queensland Awards ceremony.

Gladstone Region Mayor, Matt Burnett said another GCCI Award cements Luminous as one of the best events in Regional Queensland.

“This year’s event saw 30,000 people come through the gates of Tondoon Botanic Gardens across three magical nights and anyone who attended will tell you what a fantastic experience they had,” Mayor Burnett said.

“In the five years of Luminous the event has grown from a one-night event with about 5000 attendees, to a three-night event with 30,000 attendees.

“Not only that, the number of lights and installations has quadrupled since that time.

“Most importantly, the event remains free for the community to enjoy.”
