Edward River Council CEO sacked

Edward River Councillors today resolved to terminate the contract of Council CEO, Philip Stone, effective immediately.

The Council has moved to appoint Mark Dalzell – who tendered his resignation last week – as Acting General Manager, and says it will commence a recruitment process for a new General Manager/CEO to lead the organisation.

“On behalf of the Councillors, we wish to express our thanks to Mr Stone for his service
and contribution to the Council, and we wish him well for the future,” the Council said in a statement released this afternoon.

Mr Stone (pictured) has extensive experience in the public sector, with more than 15 years spent at senior levels of local government in Victoria, NSW and Queensland. He joined Edward River Council almost four years ago.

In a statement, Mr Stone said, “I’ve enjoyed my time in Edward River Council and am proud of the achievements over the last four years. While there have been political challenges that every CEO faces, I can say that the team and community at Edward River is exceptional and I wish them every success.”

Just last week, Mr Stone posted a photo to LinkedIn documenting the first meeting of the Council’s new management team.

“Exciting times ahead as we uplift our leadership skills, embed a dynamic culture, and develop our operational plan and budget with the councillors in the next financial year,” he wrote.
