Norfolk Island council condemns vandalism

Norfolk Island Regional Council is calling on the local community to help look after public facilities following recent incidents of
vandalism at Bumboras Reserve and Two Chimneys Reserve.

Council contractors have reported unsanitary conditions at both public toilet facilities.

“These incidents have created unpleasant and unhygienic conditions for cleaners and caused inconvenience for residents and visitors who rely on these facilities,” the Council said in a statement.

“Cleaning and repairing damaged facilities also places additional pressure on Council resources, with costs ultimately borne by the community and staff diverted from other maintenance responsibilities.”

With the warmer months approaching and increased use of public reserves expected, Council is reminding residents and visitors to treat public facilities with respect and leave them clean and accessible for others.

Anyone who notices damaged or vandalised facilities is encouraged to report them to Council on local free call 0100 or by emailing customercare@nirc.gov.nf. Witnessed acts of vandalism can be reportedfto Norfolk Island Police on 22222.
