Departing Queensland Governor, Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, addressed local government leaders at this week’s 130th LGAQ Annual Conference in Cairns.
The 27th Governor is set to retire from the Vice Regal post on 1 November, having visited each of the State’s 77 local government areas.
LGAQ CEO, Alison Smith said Dr Young and Professor Nimmo had been a welcome presence in Queensland communities throughout her five-year term.
“Dr Jeannette Young has been a great advocate for Queensland councils, travelling far and wide to understand the challenges they face and to hear directly from the communities they serve,” Ms Smith said.
“She’s brought hope to many communities and councillors have welcomed her with open arms.
“We’re delighted to have the Governor attending our 130th Annual Conference in Cairns along with Federal, State and local government leaders.
“On behalf of all Queensland councils, I want to thank Dr Young for her service to all Queenslanders and look forward to her attendance at LGAQ Annual Conference.”
