The City of Stirling Council is trialling new disability access matting on Trigg Beach this summer.
Following a notice of motion submitted by Councillor Suzanne Migdale, Council approved installation of 10 metres of matting at Trigg Beach, extending the existing permanent accessible ramp until winter.
The popular location is sheltered and provides opportunity for off-beach activities such as play equipment, barbecue facilities, a large grassed area, a universal access toilet facility and ACROD parking.
Mayor Mark Irwin said the trial would help to increase beach accessibility for a broad range of people, including people with disability, people who are aged and families with prams.
“We are lucky to have such wonderful beaches in the City of Stirling and our trial for new access matting will hopefully encourage even more people to enjoy Trigg Beach this summer,” Mayor Irwin said.
“We’ve recently re-opened the ramp from Clarko Reserve to the beach after completing some maintenance works due to storm damage earlier in the year, so we hope to see lots of people out and about enjoying our facilities.”
The City also has a beach wheelchair available for use on Scarborough Beach, which can be booked for free via the City’s website and collected from Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club.
The City has previously used access matting for events by the beach to allow increased numbers of people to enjoy City-run events.
