Contractor named for latest Brisbane library upgrade

Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, today announced the successful contractor to deliver the City’s new Everton Park Library project.

Local contractor, Premis Solutions, has been awarded the tender for the project which is valued at more than $15 million.

Lord Mayor Schrinner said Council was committed to investing in new and improved libraries throughout Brisbane.

“Our network of 33 libraries are fantastic locations to borrow books, regardless of whether your preference is the latest thriller novel or one of the classics,” he said.

“However, our libraries are much more than that. They’re vibrant community hubs with a huge range of other services like reading programs, computer training, events and workshops, as well as spaces for hire.

“We are committed to continue investing in our libraries because of the important role they play in bringing residents together and helping Brisbane get even better.”

The existing Everton Park Library has been at its current location since 1965 and receives more than 35,000 visitors a year.

The project includes a new library with double the floorspace, a new undercover carpark, multi-purpose spaces and meeting rooms, computer lounge, a children’s space and a dedicated quiet room.

The existing library building, when demolished, will be replaced with a turfed park, and a pathway connection to Fallon Park.

Early works to remove three Council-owned buildings began last year.

Lord Mayor Schrinner said he was pleased a local business would undertake the works.

“Council is committed to buying local where possible and ensure our investment in vital community infrastructure like this goes back into the local economy,” he said.

The delivery of the new Everton Park Library comes after major works at the Carindale, Bracken Ridge and Inala libraries were completed in recent years.

Council is also working on a refurbishment of Zillmere Library which is expected to be completed in mid-2023.
