Blue Mountains City Council has confirmed construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks on a new formalised parking area in Glenbrook.
The works in Green Street, Glenbrook, adjacent to Glenbrook Park, will add additional parking spaces and improve access to Glenbrook Park and the village centre as part of the Council’s broader Glenbrook Village Upgrade program.
Mayor, Mark Greenhill said the project was an important step towards improving access and amenity in Glenbrook.
“Improving access is an important part of making Glenbrook easier and safer to get around for residents and visitors,” Mayor Greenhill said.
“The start of these works is a milestone for the Glenbrook Village Upgrade program, which will also support walking and cycling and enhance the village’s public spaces.”
Council has also recently initiated an EOI process giving local artists and designers an opportunity to contribute creative designs for new bicycle parking stations to be installed in the village.
The Glenbrook Village Upgrade program will deliver a range of public domain improvements, including footpath upgrades, improved crossings and lighting, landscaping, seating and public art.
The upgrades are funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program, alongside funding for improvements in Blaxland, Hazelbrook and Katoomba town centres.
“I’m excited to see the changes that are coming to Glenbrook village – changes that include better landscaping, better lighting to improve night-time safety, public art, more seating, footpath upgrades to meet accessibility standards; as well as a place that is safer for pedestrians and has improved parking options,” said Member for Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle.
“I know Blue Mountains City Council has carefully examined the community feedback it has received about this project to ensure this village continues to thrive.
“The State Government is proud to support the Glenbrook village upgrade which is expected to be completed by next year. Funded out of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) program, its total value is more than $4 million dollars.”
