Coffs council launches personalised waste app

City of Coffs Harbour Council has launched a new smart phone app to help residents to know which waste bin to put out each week, and when.

The Coffs Coast Waste Services App has gone live and is free to download on either the App Store or Google Play.

With the new app, Coffs residents can:

  • Get bin collection reminders;
  • Access waste and recycling info quickly; and
  • Find nearby disposal locations.

“Life can get super busy and probably everyone at some stage or another has walked out to the street to check what colour bin the neighbours have rolled out,” said Mayor, Nikki Williams.

“While this new app won’t actually take the bin to the kerb for you, it will let you know just about everything else.”

The app has been ‘personalised’ for residents by Coffs Coast Waste Services, a regional partnership between Handybin Waste Services, City of Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Valley Council and Bellingen Shire Council.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, all you need to do is enter your street address.

“You can easily set reminders for when to put out your yellow, red and green bins for collection,” said Council Infrastructure Acting Director, Daniel Noble.

“There’s also a handy link to book a bulky household waste collection.

“One of the best features is a searchable A-to-Z guide which advises you how to manage a particular product. For instance if you type in aluminium foil (dirty) it tells you it should go in the red bin while beer cans or bottles should go in the yellow. And did you know unwanted bread should go in your green bin.”

The app also contains important information on the Englands Road Waste Management Facility, and Lowanna, Coramba and Woolgoolga transfer stations.

Educational tips also feature on the app, with links to worm farming, composting and mulching.
