MidCoast Council is preparing a coastal management program that will guide how it manages almost 10% of the NSW coastline.
Council’s Manager Natural Systems, Gerard Tuckerman said the 10-year program will guide how the coastline from Crowdy Head to Hawks Nest is managed by the Council.
Last year, consultants collected data along the coastline to inform and update hazard mapping. The mapping shows the probability of coastal processes impacting the coastline over the next 100 years.
“Our coastline will experience coastal erosion and shoreline recession. Some impacts are expected to occur before 2060,” said Mr Tuckerman.
Council is now consulting with affected property owners and the wider community.
After the consultation, a draft coastal management program will be prepared and placed on public exhibition for final community feedback.
“This program will provide a clear direction for the future management of our coastline,” the Council said in a statement.
Consultation will close on Sunday 8 November.
