Circular Head Mayor, Gerard Blizzard, has welcomed the Liberal Party’s pledge of $10.1 million for a purpose-built Smithton Health Hub—matching an equivalent commitment by the Federal Labor Party.
“It’s heartening to see both major parties recognise the importance of first-rate healthcare for regional towns like ours,” Mayor Blizzard said.
“This bipartisan support gives our community real confidence that the Smithton Health Hub will be delivered, no matter who forms government.”
Liberal candidate for Braddon, Mal Hingston said the investment would give local families peace of mind.
“Residents in Braddon shouldn’t have to worry about travelling long distances to get the healthcare they deserve,” Mr Hingston said.
“This $10.1 million investment will secure the future of a wide range of services for the region – including general practice and allied health services, improving access to essential care for the community.”
Mayor Blizzard added that Council’s concept plan includes a medical centre, undercover parking, dedicated allied-health floor, and accommodation for visiting specialists and GPs.
“Bringing services closer to home supports our ageing population, keeps families together and helps us attract health professionals to live and work in Circular Head,” he said.
