Circular Head Council will host a Dry Season Readiness Roadshow in May, bringing farmers, industry experts and support services together to help prepare for dry conditions and build long-term farm resilience.
The roadshow will travel from Marrawah to Smithton to Forest over two days, with practical, informal sessions focused on drought preparedness, seasonal risk and farmer wellbeing.
The roadshow program includes:
MARRAWAH – 5:30pm to 9pm, Wednesday 13 May, Marrawah Inn – Dinner included;
SMITHTON – 7:30am to 10:30am, Thursday 14 May, Tall Timbers – Breakfast included;
FOREST – 5:30pm to 9pm, Thursday 14 May, The Blackberry – Dinner included.
The Council said farmers will hear directly from other producers who’ve lived through dry conditions, including King Island farmers sharing their experience from the 2023–2024 drought.
Local veterinarian, Neil Leighton and other industry experts will also provide practical advice and support.
Circular Head Mayor, Gerard Blizzard said the roadshow is about backing local farmers and strengthening connections across the region.
“Our farmers are the backbone of this region and a key part of Tasmania’s food bowl,” the Mayor said.
“This is about sharing knowledge, building resilience, and making sure people know what support is out there before conditions get tough.”
Circular Head sits within one of Tasmania’s most productive agricultural regions, the Cradle Coast, with around 16% of the state’s farmland producing about 41% of agricultural output and 51% of Tasmania’s dairy production.
Mayor Blizzard said the program responds to local needs.
“Research shows our region has lower drought resilience than other parts of Tasmania. This is about practical support, real conversations, and helping farmers stay ahead of dry conditions.”
The roadshow is supported by the Tasmanian Regional Drought Resilience Grant Program and aligns with the North-West Tasmania Regional Drought Resilience Plan.
Farmers, agricultural businesses and rural landholders are encouraged to attend.
