Brisbane City Council is urging residents at risk from significant storm surge and flooding to consider relocating ahead of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The warning follows the release of new modelling undertaken by Council based on the latest Bureau of Meteorology forecasts.
The modelling shows almost 20,000 properties could be impacted by storm surge or flooding.
“Residents are warned this is a model only and there could be impacts that aren’t recognised by the current Bureau of Meteorology forecast,” the Council said in a statement.
“These 20,000 properties could experience anything from mild inundation in their yards to significant flooding in their homes.”
According to the modelling, areas most at risk include Nudgee Beach, Brighton, Windsor, Ashgrove, Morningside and Rocklea.
The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting peak storm surges to occur from Thursday.
Residents are urged to inspect the mapping on Council’s website and make other overnight arrangements if their property is at significant risk.
