Adelaide Hills switches on solar

Adelaide Hills Council has installed and switched on a number of solar panel sites in the district to reduce its carbon footprint.

A new 99kW roof-mounted system has been installed on top of Coventry Library in Stirling, while a 10kW and 20kW system has been installed on two buildings at Council’s Heathfield Depot. A new 12.5kW ground-mounted system has also been installed at Council’s Birdwood CWMS site.

“These new panel systems have increased Council’s solar panel power from 61kW to 141.5kW – an increase of 80.5kW,” it said in a statement.

“Previous use of solar panels, as well as installation of energy efficient air conditioners, and changing a number of street lights to LED has resulted in a 35% decrease of kilowatt usage to date.

“Council looks forward to seeing the positive outcomes from these additional systems.”

The solar initiative is one of several sustainability projects that Council has committed to as part of its Corporate Carbon Management Plan (CCMP).
