Shellharbour City Council has awarded the main works construction contract for the Tripoli Way Extension, marking a significant major milestone in the delivery of the Council’s largest infrastructure project.
The construction contract has been awarded to Haslin Constructions, who will deliver the project in partnership with Council.
The Tripoli Way Extension, being delivered by Council and the NSW Government, will deliver a new east-west transport connection and bypass of the Albion Park town centre to support the growing Albion Park community.
Mayor Chris Homer welcomed the contract award and acknowledged the progress of the long-planned project.
“Getting the Tripoli Way Extension contract locked in is a big step forward for our community and something we’ve been working towards for a long time,” Mayor Homer said.
“It’s going to make a real difference to how people move around Albion Park, Tullimbar and Calderwood, providing an alternative route around the Albion Park town centre and helping traffic move more efficiently as these communities continue to grow.”
Mayor Homer said the project reflects Council’s focus on planning ahead for the city’s future.
“This is about making sure we’ve got the right infrastructure in place as our community grows. The Tripoli Way Extension will improve everyday travel for locals and help build a stronger, more connected transport network for years to come,” she said.
The extension has been part of Council’s long-term planning since 1961 and is designed to improve connectivity across the local road network while helping manage future traffic growth.
Extensive electrical upgrades and utilities relocations have recently been completed to prepare the corridor for the next stage of the project, with construction expected to commence this year.
The project will deliver a new two-kilometre transport corridor linking Terry Street in the east to Broughton Avenue in the west, providing an alternative route that bypasses the Albion Park town centre.
Key features of the project include:
- A two-kilometre road corridor
- A 30-metre bridge over Hazelton Creek
- Three signalised intersections
- Four traffic lanes between Terry Street and Moles Street
- Two traffic lanes between Moles Street and Broughton Avenue
- Connections to the Illawarra Highway in partnership with Transport for NSW.
