Thousands of netball players across Sydney’s eastern suburbs are set to benefit from a new amenities building at Maroubra’s Heffron Park, with the facility officially opened by the NSW Government and Randwick City Council at the weekend.
The finished project provides modern and accessible amenities to support Randwick Netball, which has almost 5,000 members and attracts more than 10,000 visitors each Saturday to Heffron Park, making it the largest participation sport in the area.
The project was co-funded by Randwick City Council and the NSW Government under the Level Playing Field Program.
Mayor, Dylan Parker said Council is proud of its ongoing partnership with Randwick Netball to provide quality facilities supporting sport and creating a safe and welcoming environment for women and girls to train and compete.
“Randwick Netball is an important part of our community, and we wanted them to have fantastic facilities. I’m very pleased to deliver this new building in partnership with the NSW Government,” Mayor Parker said.
“The new amenities block at Randwick Netball is fantastic because now our players have a safe area with wonderfully upgraded facilities that move us into the next era for our girls,” said Randwick Netball Association CEO, Jenny Morrissey.
The facilities will also support other park users such as people visiting the Heffron Park Markets on the third Sunday of the month.
The new facility contains:
• Large change room
• Female dedicated bathrooms
• DDA bathroom
• 5 x Unisex Bathrooms
• Referee bathroom
• Sports groups storeroom
• Building plant room
• Council storeroom.
