Hay Shire Council has completed the replacement of an amenities building at the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool in Hay.
The new building provides modern amenities with dedicated areas, including:
- private change rooms
- swimming club area
- canteen
- kitchen
- medical room
- office
The replacement was made possible with around $712,000 in funding from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
“The replacement of the amenities building at the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool was long overdue – which is why we are so excited to open this modern new space,” said Mayor, Carol Oataway.
“Whether it’s swimming lessons, birthday parties, or getting some relief from the heat – the Hay community will flock to the pool like never before.
“I thank the council staff and contractors for delivering this $1.7 million project, and look forward to progressing more high-impact, local-led projects in collaboration with the Albanese Government.”
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain says local swimming pools are the heart of regional communities.
“Our $712,000 investment in this fantastic new amenities building is just one of more than 10,500 projects currently funded under LRCI across the country,” said Ms McBain.
“This number will only grow – as projects under Phase 4 of LRCI, now worth $750 million thanks to $250 million in additional funding from the Albanese Labor Government, continue to be locked in.”
NSW Senator, Deborah O’Neill said the new facilities would make it easier for staff to provide quality services and encourage more Hay residents to make use of the complex.
“The John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool is an institution in the Hay community, which is why it’s great to see work complete on the new amenities building,” she said.
