The Federal Government has pledged more than $2.6 million to Redland City Council to deliver 12 local road and infrastructure projects.
Working in partnership with the Council, the projects will improve the safety of local roads, footpaths and cycleways, updating and repairing existing facilities, and supporting local jobs, said Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Kristy McBain.
“When we work together, we get better outcomes for our communities – which is why the Albanese Labor Government has increased the funding available to local councils to support the continued delivery of their local priority projects,” said Ms McBain.
“Whether it’s improving ageing roads or delivering a much-needed repair to a community hall, investing in local-led projects ensures we continue to boost liveability, regardless of your postcode.”
The 12 projects include:
- Maintenance of facilities at the Cleveland Aquatic Centre:
- Upgrading the unisex disabled toilet
- Resurfacing of pathways near carpark, reception area, amenities and 25m pool
- Conservation repairs at Bayview Conservation Park and Scribbly Guma Mountain Bike tracks:
- Rectification of surface damage, erosion and removal of hazards
- Footbridge maintenance across the Redlands:
- Repairs to boardwalks and trip hazards
- Installation, replacement, and repair of reflectors
- Graffiti removal and general safety maintenance
- Footpath and cycleway maintenance in non-CBD areas
- City-wide management of grasses and other vegetation to maintain access routes for fire and maintenance vehicles and to limit impact on residential areas in the event of a wildfire
- Sealing of roads on Macleay Island:
- Brolga Street
- Heron Street
- Ibis Street
- Noogie Street
- Parakeet Street
- Piccaninny Street
- Sandpiper Parade
The funding is delivered through Phase 4 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.
“Redlands Coast offers a wonderful lifestyle and unique place to live and play, and Redland City Council is committed to collaborating with all levels of government to deliver outstanding services and initiatives for our residents,” said Redland Mayor, Jos Mitchell.
“This funding is a very welcome boost as it will enable Council to progress vital upgrades and maintenance works across both our mainland and island communities.”
