The WA Government has announced funding and new planning resources to help the state’s councils to create healthier, more connected communities as part of the State Public Health Plan 2025-2030.
Under the Plan, all Western Australian local governments are required to develop their own public health plans by June.
A new public health plan template, developed by Healthway, will assist local governments to design and deliver initiatives that promote community health and wellbeing.
It will support the creation of effective and enduring community-led strategies that take into account the local context and unique health needs of each local government area, said Preventative Health Minister, Sabine Winton.
“Local governments play a vital role in creating healthy communities,” said Minister Winton.
“By giving local governments the support and tools they need, we’re helping create healthier, safer, and more connected communities for everyone – ensuring Western Australians can live their best life, regardless of their postcode.”
In addition, a grant pool of up to $200,000 has been committed to the Public Health Plan Activation Program, allowing Healthway to assist individual local governments with plan development.
A Healthway grant of $392,520 to expand the Thriving Perth Portal – an online map-based support tool – will provide local governments with better access to community health and environmental data and insights to support effective planning.
“Local governments know their communities best, and these new resources will support them to translate that knowledge into effective public health planning,” said WA Local Government Minister, Hannah Beazley (pictured).
“From the new planning template to targeted Healthway grants and improved access to data, this package is designed to make it easier for local governments to develop and implement their public health plans.
“It’s a positive example of State and local governments working together to deliver healthier, more connected, and inclusive communities.”
