Vision adopted for new Carlingford Parklands

New multi-use courts, fitness stations, a themed playspace and more amenities such as shaded seating, shelter, lighting and tree planting are all part of the Carlingford Parklands Design Plan adopted at City of Parramatta Council’s September meeting this week.

The Council says the design plan brings to life the long-held community vision for the revitalisation of Thallon Street Reserve East, Thallon Street Reserve West, Shirley Street Reserve and Lloyds Avenue Reserve in Carlingford, north-west of Parramatta’s CBD.

“This design plan brings us a step closer to securing much-needed upgrades for local parks within Carlingford, a suburb that’s expected to welcome more than 8,000 residents in the next 25 years,” said Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter.

“We’ve made it clear that infrastructure and housing go hand in hand. Our plan responds to community demands for high quality infrastructure and open spaces close to where they live.

“Once complete, these upgrades will transform Carlingford’s parklands and create opportunities for families to enjoy outdoor recreation, play sport, relax and keep fit and healthy,” he said.

The plan was shaped by feedback gathered across two stages of community consultation.

“We listened to our community’s aspirations for the parklands and reflected these in the final plans, which as a result have received overwhelming support,” Lord Mayor Zaiter said.

“More than 100 responses were received in the last community consultation and 93% told us that they support the proposal.”

Work will now commence for Stage One of the plan which includes Thallon Street East Reserve and Thallon Street West Reserve.

Council says it will continue to pursue funding opportunities with the NSW and Australian Government, VPAs and other potential funding sources to deliver the remaining stages.
