Maths teacher elected Mayor of Clarence Valley

Councillor Peter Johnstone has been elected as the new Mayor of Clarence Valley Council.

Mayor Johnstone (pictured, left) was elected in a vote by councillors at the Ordinary Meeting of Clarence Valley Council this week. Councillor Jeff Smith (pictured, right) was elected Deputy Mayor.

The new Mayor said he was committed to representing the interests of the whole Clarence Valley, and being strongly engaged with the people he represents.

“It’s a great honour to be the Mayor of such a wonderful place as the Clarence Valley,” he said.

“It’s been great getting to meet people around the Clarence Valley as my time as a Councillor, and I’m looking forward to meeting many more as Mayor.”

Mayor Johnstone has been a maths teacher for 28 years, including nine at South Grafton High School.

His other roles include volunteer firefighter with Grafton City RFB, and Secretary of the Grafton Supa Oldie Soccer Club.
