Townsville bin lifts top 3.5 million

Townsville City Council’s 27 sidearm waste trucks have lifted more than 3.5 million bins across the city this year.

The huge number covers Townsville’s domestic waste, which are taken to Stuart Waste Facility, and domestic recycling, which is taken to the Material Recovery Facility on Ingham Road.

The trucks make up part of Council’s fleet of 550 cars and trucks that travel more than 22 million kilometres while providing services to the Townsville community.

Townsville Water and Resource Recovery Committee chairperson, Russ Cook said the impressive figures reflected Council’s commitment to furthering Townsville’s development as a great place to live, work, play and learn.

“Our fleet covers everything from our waste trucks through to our mobile library. Vehicles from our fleet are in our suburbs each and every day delivering services to our community,” Cr Cook said.

“Looking at our waste trucks alone you can see the impact they make, emptying 3.5 million domestic bins each year and moving the contents on to either our Stuart Waste Facility or our Material Recovery Facility.

“Our vehicles are also used for things like setting up community events, traffic control and construction. Each time one of our vehicles is out and about it’s helping to grow Townsville into an even more attractive place to live and work.”
