Swan Hill council signs lease for former drag strip site

Swan Hill Rural City Council has announced the signing of a sub-lease agreement with the Skid City Consortium for a former local drag strip site.

Council says the deal follows considerable negotiation and marks a significant step forward in maximising the use of the space for the benefit of the community.

The sub-lease agreement will officially commence on January 1, 2025, for a three-year period.

Mayor, Stuart King expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement and the potential it holds for the site.

“This collaboration with the Skid City Consortium reflects Council’s commitment to fostering innovative uses for community spaces,” he said.

“We are confident this will breathe new life into the former drag strip site, creating value for both the community and visitors to the region.

“The primary lease for the site is held by the Chisholm Reserve Committee (CRC), and Council extends its gratitude to the Committee for their support in finalising the sub-lease with Skid City. We look forward to collaborating closely to achieve our shared goal of making the site operational once again,” Mayor King said.

“This site holds great potential, and we are eager to work together with Council to create a space that will be enjoyed by the entire region and its visitors,” said Chairperson of the Skid City Consortium, Mark Humphrey.
