Strathfield Mayor, Benjamin Cai, has embraced social media video as an effective way to engage and connect directly with the Strathfield community, with his educational videos racking up thousands of views.
Mayor Cai (pictured) has filmed more than 20 videos covering a range of topics since December 2025, with the support of Strathfield Council’s Communications and Events Team.
Since February, the Mayor has filmed a weekly video which is posted on Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages. They show Mayor Cai showcasing a Council project, place, upcoming events or other important community notice.
The Council says the video campaign has highlighted the varied and important work local government delivers and provided a connection for residents with the Mayor.
Topics have included Local Government Week, new waste truck art, promoting Homebush Vibes and Council’s recently installed public EV chargers.
The videos have racked up thousands of views and become a staple of Council’s Reels and broader social media strategy.
“The videos form part of Strathfield Council’s strategic approach to build trust with local residents through transparency and timely updates regarding the work Council does on behalf of residents,” said Mayor Cai.
The videos are scripted, shot and edited in house by Council’s Digital Communications Officer, Lucia Fong.
The most popular videos with the Mayor are the videos that spotlight Council’s beautiful and diverse parks and reserves.
“We have 29 unique parks and natural areas in our local area, each of them equipped with amenities for our community to enjoy and create unforgettable memories with their family and friends,” says Mayor Cai.
The Parks and Reserves featured by Mayor Cai so far include Hudson Park, Ford Park, Dean Reserve and the recently upgraded Melville Reserve in Homebush West.
