Sports Inclusion Coach subbed on for City of Busselton

The City of Busselton Council has welcomed Gemma Harrison on board as its new Sports Inclusion Coach, joining forces with the City and Sport4All to help drive greater inclusivity in local sport.

In her new role, Ms Harrison will support the delivery of the Sport4All Program, promoting accessible and inclusive sporting opportunities across the community.

Council partnered with Sport4All in 2024 for a jointly-funded three year agreement. The award-winning national program was brought to life through a collaboration between the Australian Government, the Australian Sports Commission and the former Australian of the year, Dylan Alcott AO’s consultancy, Get Skilled Access.

Ms Harrison’s appointment will ensure the successful delivery of the Sport4All Program, working with local schools, sports clubs and community, the Council said in a statement.

“Her distinguished career spans national and state-level sport development, including time at the Australian Sports Commission and the WA Football Commission, as well as consultancy across the sector. Gemma’s background as a registered teacher and work in the disability sector underscores her passion for inclusive learning environments and equitable community outcomes,” it stated.

Mayor, Phill Cronin said the Council was excited to have Ms Harrison onboard.

“Through the Sport4All initiative, Gemma will lead efforts to provide resources, guidance and training that embraces diversity and creates opportunities for people with disability to participate and thrive,” said Mayor Cronin.

Ms Harrison said taking on the role was “an incredibly powerful opportunity that combines her two greatest professional passions – sport and inclusion”.

“Collaboratively we can make a real difference by removing barriers and building a welcoming, inclusive environment for all,” she said.

Later this year, the Council will host an Inclusion Forum in collaboration with Sport4All and both local and state organisations.
